Not a huge fan of the writing style in this but the smut made up for that.

Initially, I loved this book because the MMC reminds me a bit of InuYasha. However, it's not very well written and the third act twist really turned the FMC into a Mary Sue for me. Additionally, it was a little spicy, even for my taste — more erotica than plot with a lot of sexposition to skip over. DNF at like 85/90%

Wow. I really, really enjoyed this book.
I love the creativity of the plot. It's fun - the MMC is a demon who decides to leave Hell with his brothers and who enjoys jazz music - while still being quite believable within the context of the world that Ascher has set up for this series. She's so good at setting up little details within the book that not only add texture to the world, but which become incredibly relevant later on.
And the action! There is an action component to this novel which I really enjoyed as well. I also liked how well-integrated it felt into the overall book.
If anything, I felt that the romance faltered a little bit when compared against all the wonderful plot and world-building this featured since there's so much of the latter. The book sometimes moves away from the main romance to explore other plot threads. It's the first book in the series with a creative premise so I think it makes sense for this book to contain more of a set-up but I could also see it being a bit frustrating for readers.
Besides the steam, there are also other content warnings listed on the author's site if you're interested in learning more. This book would work as a standalone but there are some plot lines that are left open as they extend into future books in the series.
I loved this demon romance so much that I binged all three in one go, which is pretty rare as I usually jump from series to series!
July 2022 edit: I loved this demon romance so much, I signed up to the author's newsletter and bought a signed copy of this book. I love my signed copy, I love the swag I got with it, I love this book.

This book outlived my expectations and that really makes me happy. Great story with spice and I found myself wanting to know more about this demon filled world. I actually like that I didn't like all the characters and their choices, it made them more rounded, and made me root for the MCs all the more.

“I feel… attached to you. Like I am to my brothers, but different. More.” He scowled, keeping his gaze locked straight ahead. “It’s uncomfortable, and my chest aches all the time, and I fucking hate it.”
A super cute monster fucking story!
