i quite liked this. the first two-thirds or so took me much longer to read because it was difficult to be in yunjae'e head for too long but i binged the back half very quickly. i liked the exploration of alexithymia but his narration was too much at times.
while i'm happy with the way things ended, i thought it was a tad cheesy that his mom woke up. good for him though.
i found myself really feeling for gon.
i'm happy he has sensible adults around him now at least.

This is what I call a wonderful read.

The book follows the story of Yun-jae, a boy who was born with a problem: he cannot express any feeling - no happiness, no sadness, no fear. Because of that it's very hard to fit in the society. The whole story is written from his point of view - the pov of aomwone who tries to understand what others feel and tey to read social ques and mimics in order to knoe how to respond to things.

Another important character in the book is Gon. Their relationship is so special, for both of them, it's even harder to understand it in the beginning but it does make sense.

This book is about feelings, friendship, lovw and family. The book shoes how conplex feelings are and how hard actually is to understand them, to misinterpreted a smile, or tears or words such as "go away".

This book made me cry as a baby in the end. It is a beautiful story with beautiful writing and amazing growth.

Such a unique book that portray the unique side of human's brain in general. This book simply tells us that even though someone seems different, it doesn't means that they're less human than us. Hanya saja, manusia tumbuh dan berkembang dengan ritmenya masing masing. Kita sebagai manusia hanya perlu untuk saling mengerti satu sama lain untuk menerima perbedaan yang ada di antara kita.

The first half was so much better than the second.

This book was a strange read for me. From a literary standpoint, it absolutely does what it sets out to do. The author, in conjunction with the translator weave language beautifully to capture the complicated emotional states (or lack thereof) of the main characters- something that’s hard to do in an engaging manner when your central protagonist quite literally lack any internalized emotional experience. I have a great deal of respect for being able to pull that off. Unfortunately, it was that lack of internal emotional experience that made the characters feel detached to me as a reader as well. For my personal tastes, that sense of emotional connection is important to my enjoyment of the story. Without it, the few plot points felt a bit disjointed, and I get that feeling that this book is not one that will linger with me and that I’ll think about long after I’ve closed it, like I’d hoped.
