From now on every Spanish book review will have an English translation after the review in Spanish.
Sorry for inconvenience, I have to practice my Spanish somewhere

Won-pyung Sohn's "Almond" tells us a story about Yunjae, a boy with underdeveloped amygdalas. Yunjae cannot feel emotions. He is considered a weirdo among boys of the same age and gets bullied a lot.
Yunjae can identify emotions, thanks to his mother and his grandmother, but when a psychopath kills his grandmother and gravely injures his mother, he is left alone. He's left alone against the world.
The book has a good pace, although the ending is quite rushed. Two things I didn't like is that, at times, the Author describes Yunjae's emotions, which it is not possible (because him not feeling anything emotionally is like his main trait as a character).
She cheats adding words like "I should have felt ..." and etc. to make a reader feel something, but it just threw me off. There could be more impact if she didn't do that, we readers could deduce how he should've felt ourselves.
Another thing is that it has a very dorama ending.
Overall, after three horrible books, I enjoyed it a lot.

sad
It was character based yet there were too many characters to fully develop in the short length. Made it boring.
Almond is a moving and quietly powerful novel about Yunjae, a boy born with alexithymia—a condition that makes it hard for him to feel or express emotions. The first half is especially captivating, offering a tender and insightful look into his world through smooth, emotive writing.
However, the second half feels rushed. Yunjae’s emotional growth and the resolution of his trauma come too quickly, raising questions about whether the author intended for him to be "cured"—and if so, whether it was believable.
Despite this, the story is full of feeling, ironically told through a character who can’t feel in the conventional sense. Almond is a quietly emotional journey that lingers after the last page.
