2021 reread: I can’t count how many times I’ve read and loved this book. No other novel speaks to the combination of intellect and romance like this one. ❤️

Se, no início, estava a ser um martírio, do meio para o fim foi melhorando qualquer coisa. Ainda assim, entra para a minha lista de "clássicos que toda a gente gosta, menos eu". Acho que Jane Austen não é para mim.

One of the best stories of all time!  Small deduction for the occasional bits of dialogue from the time period that are, regardless of how many times you have watched the show/movie, tricky to follow.

Really want to rate this book lower but I don't think 2 is fair. Maybe I didn't "get" this book because I am male or maybe because I am older. Whatever the reason, I continually told myself, if this Austin's most acclaimed work, I am not sure I want to try any others.

I found all the younger characters to be very high school dramatic and the adults to be like the parents on Toddler and Tiaras (kids beauty pageant reality TV show). I never found anyone to root for, Elizabeth included.

For years I hear Mr. Darcy and Rhett Butler compared as the ultimate lady's man. I don't see Mr. Darcy holding a flame to Rhett Butler. Mr. Darcy was an elitist (as many in the story) indecisive, temperamental, and though kind and mannerly around intimate friends or servants he was rude and aloof around strangers.

I expected more from this highly esteemed story.
