pride and prejudice is full of multifaceted characters, charisma, and a whole lot of wit, but my god was i bored. jane austen is clearly brilliant but period dramas are rarely my thing. i did find a ton of merit in the themes and think that i would appreciate this more on a reread when i know where the characters end up and can appreciate their development more. i fully blame myself for not enjoying this as much as i could have. it really wasn’t something i should’ve read in a day.

I'm not a fan of those type of book. I didn't care for it years ago when I read it in school and I didn't really get anything more from it this time around. But we listened to it as a family because two of my kids had to read it for school. I got a bit more of the sarcasm this time around, but I can see how these books have influenced our books and movies. I just choose not to continue to read it.

A really good read. I understand why it is such a classic. Elizabeth and Darcy's character development was chef's kiss. When I heard the title of the book I didn't realize just how key the theme of "pride and prejudice" was throughout the story. Each character's pride and prejudice forms a large part of how they live and carry out their lives and drives a lot of their decisions. It's mainly highlighted through Elizabeth and Darcy of course; it was what was stopping them from seeing their true affection for one another.

But I think what surprised me about this story was how un-romantic it was. Maybe it's because I watched the movie first. I don't think the main couple even kissed at all during the whole novel. It felt more like a social commentary by Jane Austen at times than an actual romance. But it was still very enjoyable!
