A very fast-paced read.  I found myself holding my breath and saying "Quiet", "Shhhhh" to myself quite a bit while reading it.

Could not put it down!

Wow! This one was an intense ride! Maybe it's because I have a little one at home and could feel the anxiety of the mother! I wanted to take breaks from reading but could not put it down! I had to know what the outcome would be! Although the ending was satisfying, I'm still left wondering about the other characters!

This was super tense. It's labeled a thriller, but I almost feel like if it were made into a movie, it would be a horror movie. It kind of felt like a slasher movie but one where the villains had guns instead of knives. But I love slasher movies, so that worked for me. I also resonated with the focus on the mother/son dynamic since I'm a mom with a son, and I'm the same age as the heroine.

I was intrigued up until the point they left the porcupine exhibit. Everything felt rushed and I felt disconnected the entire time. I didn't find it fast-paced or thrilling at all.

Wowza. This book grabbed my imagination and wouldn't let go.

Sometimes I forget how much I like a suspenseful, slightly scary book to distract from the situations I face in everyday life. The cover art made me pick this book up one afternoon while my kids were doing homework. I was kind of thinking I should read something light and fluffy but this one was sitting on my counter. The merry-go-round horses would be cute and happy if not for the black background and red letters...I thought I'd give it a shot.

I could not put it down. So, so gripping. I have talked about it with people I know who love books (no spoilers, though) and begged them to read it too. The existential questions it forces you to ask, the situations you must consider, the way the author uses flashbacks so seamlessly, all of these things make you want to talk about this book with someone.

I loved Joan, the main character. She was such a great representation of the modern mother. I could identify with so much of her struggle in that role. She was multilayered and interesting and flawed.

This book needed more press. It was different from other suspenseful books but I liked it better than The Woman in Cabin 10 or The Girl on the Train, both of which got tons of attention.
