This book was interesting, engaging and enjoyable. I expected it to be more intense, but it seemed lke the bond between Joan and Lincoln was the focus of the story, more than the shooting was. Joan did a lot of smart things while trying to protect herself and Lincoln, but she also did things and reacted in ways that I questioned. Despite being a serious and timely topic (public shootings), I felt it lacked depth in that regard.

I wanted to like this book a lot more than I actually liked it. It takes place in a zoo, an unusual location for a thriller.

It’s mostly told from the point of view of a mother who is “trapped” in the zoo after hours. I use quotation marks because I think she could have worked her way to the entrance but chose to hide instead.

There were a few other points of few that showed up later in the story, and I felt that these were a distraction and didn’t really add anything to the story.

I liked the relationship between the mother and her young son. I didn’t like some of the choices that she made, but the choices did make me stop and consider what choices I would make in a similar circumstance. I’d like to think I would make different choices, but that also makes me wonder what the outcome of those decisions would be.

The reader should have strong feelings about the bad guy - hate, loathing, fear, curiosity, anger, intimidation, even sadness or pity. I didn’t really care in this case.

Overall while the character development of the main character and her son was well written, the plot had some major holes and I wasn’t impressed by any of the other characters in the story.

I wondered if I would enjoy this as I couldn't see how it would remain interesting but it did. There was a tension throughout and enough change to keep it engaging. There was one small thing that bothered me but had a reasonable explanation
I thought it was strange that the cops had not stormed the zoo but we find out why towards the end
that made the book even better.

I liked this book well enough, it was more focused on character building than the chase and thrill I expected, but it was a nice change of pace from the traditional crime thriller. I suspect most moms would love to read the book though. Reminded me of "Room" in a sense.

Such a cool potential plot but fell flat.

Lost my review while trying to remove a 2nd listing. UGH!!! I know that I was involved in this one. The relationship between the mom and her son, trying to save his life and make decisions that could end either one or the both of them. And I wanted to know what happened after all of it was over!

A very thrilling read! Not my usual genre, but I enjoyed it a lot. Not sure I’ll ever go to the zoo again, though ...

Interesting and different. Quick read.

This thriller, set in a zoo, is the story of a mother who must protect her young child from Earth's most dangerous predator. The story is both nail-bitingly tense and beautifully human. The protagonist must balance primal instinct with logic and critical thinking if she wants herself and her child to survive the night.
