Pacing was very slow, but I liked the story and characters. It was also a tad predictable/obvious, but it is a story for children so that’s not a problem.

At times this felt repetitive and long. The author's note explains how she wrote this as a way to process the 2016 elections and the current loss of kindness and neighborly values in American society. At times it feels heavy handed, which was fine for me as an adult reader but I wonder how kids will respond to it.

A bit long, a bit slow, but very, very magical. The best kind of book.
