An important story for any one living in the Eastern part of North America (and thus, in or near the ancestral land of the Haudenosaunee/Iroquois Confederacy). I felt like this was not the most compelling possible version of the story but I appreciated that it is likely a very accurate telling. At times, it seemed to include things that would be important for Haudenosaunee today to understand the origins of cultural symbols and practices, but which don't have a huge significance elsewhere. I found the art fine but not especially inspiring. However, because of the importance of knowing this story for people living in this land, I was glad I read it.

A fascinating and beautiful picture book that weaves together history and myth to tell the story of the founding of the Iroquois League. One star removed for a couple instances of stilted prose that should have been caught by an editor, but otherwise, this is a phenomenal book that should be on every library's shelf.
