This book got me raw from the get-go, and I need to be gotten that deep. The threads and story are fascinating and written so well. It took me 3 or 4 checkouts from the library to finish this book. But although there part in story that lagged and I wasn’t always sure what it might be building towards, I knew wanted to finish it. Lastly, the scene in the bus station bathroom was something else. I read it every time I came back to the book.

Short story-esque but I liked it. Really well fleshed out characters. Alienation from culture, trauma as a natural outgrowth of colonialism

This is a difficult book to read, from a content perspective (this is s tragedy and there is a decent amount of graphic content) and from a cultural perspective - the latter of which makes this book important to read.
For me, the way the story is presented - in flashes of individual character's perspectives - didn't quite hit the way i was hoping. I found the perspective swapping somewhat distracting, and made it challenging for me to get into the book.
Well worth the read.
