Book 2 of a forgotten series of five detective novels. The initial publication occured in fact in 1976, which is the edition I read. Patrick Hardy is a lazy dick but a enthusiastic gastronomy aficionado and old-movies buff. He's also a lady's man, since he beds every female caracters in this weird, eventless novel. There's minimal mysteries, lots of off-page sex and many, many (and i mean MANY) descriptions of meals and mentions of golden age Hollywood movies. I kind of enjoyed it in a perverse way, since it totally foils the reader's expectations. The first edition was marketed as a mens adventure novel! I would pay to see the reactions of the regular Destroyer and Death Marchant reader buying this in 1976!
