4.3 AVERAGE

This was probably my least favorite book of the Raven Cycle and Dreamer Trilogy, but I'm very attached to this story and enjoyed seeing it conclude it for sentimental reasons. Stiefvater efficiently tied up loose ends and didn't ruin my enjoyment of the previous books. Despite feeling it was lacking some of the spark of her other books in the series, I still have to give it five out of five stars because there were a few nice touches, but the five stars are more reflective of my feelings of the Raven Cycle and Dreamer Trilogy overall than of this particular book.

AUGH. i think i have come to the conclusion that the dreamer trilogy might read better if you are unfamiliar with the raven cycle and every characterization that is presented in those books. i hate to say it but as a continuation its sort of sloppy? reoccurring characters are slightly to severely out of character, missing scenes of reactions that almost definitely needed to be shown (like... r u for real going to tell me ronan is gonna come back to the barns and see two ppl who look exactly like his parents but Arent them and be like haha ok cool anyways??????), its supposed to be about ronan and hes like...... not even there half the time. IDK .

newer characters r all over the place too. bryde was presented as this all knowing dreamer with a master plan in mister impossible but now hes less than one dimensional and just There. hennessys chapters are a roller coaster of enjoyment, carmens chapters are a kiddy coaster that struggles to operate (as much as i think i came to enjoy her, every time i started a new chapter and realized it was from her perspective i felt my self loose interest).

but also at the same time i enjoyed this sort of a lot? greywaren as a book was a lot more engaging than mister impossible which lol THANK GOD. i didnt hate The Reveals but also couldnt help but wonder how far in advance they had been thought up. i thought this was a Good Fun Read(TM), just with some major caveats and words of warning for anyone coming off of trc to continue within the universe. dont expect the same characters u previously knew and dont expect the world to feel exactly fully formed? i feel like im railing hard on these books but i do like them HOWEVER they definitely have more than a couple problems? IDK im sorta losing the plot with my review. felt like it couldve been more than what it was but got cut off at the knees i guess. im giving it a 4 but it honestly deserves something more in the 3 star range (edit: biggest lol)

also who cares about anything being "fanservice" ronan and adam are gay and in love good for them

I was 16 when I first met Ronan Lynch and Adam Parrish and now I'm 23 and yet these characters are still very much my fictional emotional support boys.

I'll give it a 4.25 because it's Maggie Stiefvater, but it has to be less than Mister Impossible because the build up was so much better than the climax and ending. And that sums up what I think Maggie Stiefvater is better at: building up the atmosphere and tension, setting up intricate mysteries and delving into the inner worlds of the characters. Maggie Stiefvater once said that she wants her endings to feel *inevitable*, but the final villain did not feel inevitable. The execution of the ending just felt weak, the only character development that really felt earned in this book was Declan's. Everything else, the character arcs, the rules of the magic, even the major conflict, was sort of just quickly glossed over. I'm sad this is the final book in this universe because I think the characters deserve so much more.
