this review definitely has spoilers —

sad this series is over!! so much magic so many dreams and I love Ronan. a big end to a good series, very engaging and fun. I do wish that Ronan hadn’t been asleep for most of the book, and I think that would have added to the value of it for me. however, it is also perfectly understandable why he stays asleep until he does. I also missed Matthew in the second half; seemed like he was partially abandoned toward the end. but those were my only qualms, and I liked all of the rest of it, especially Declan’s storyline.

The perfect ending to the magical and infuriating world Maggie created so many years ago. The three lynch brothers all fight their own story and in the end, they’re all fighting for each other and the lives they want to live. Jordan and Hennessy spiral from their initial roles and face the worst parts of themselves to find each other again. The world ending has never been so helpful and insightful. We even get a guest appearance from original gang.

I finished this on a plane and had to hide the fact that I was crying over the ending. Can’t get over Declan’s birth being the first memory that Niall gave up because it was overwhelmingly happy and then Declan never knowing how much his dad loved him. Can’t get over Ronan living because Declan loved him. Can’t get over the Lynch brothers realizing that they’re friends again. Catch me crying over this series being over forever.

I cannot and will not attempt to coherently talk about this book just yet. Does some part of me wish this series was never written? Absolutely. But this book was by far the best out of the series and the Lynch brothers (and a special guest star) did make me cry quite an embarrassing amount.

Now, I just want to reread trc again.

A world and characters I enjoy enough to finish the series, but this felt like a lot of build up to a very quick conclusion.

spoiler warning!!

this was really sweet! i liked it a lot. there were some endings left a bit open that i wish were written about more (though i understand why they weren’t), and some endings felt a bit fanfiction-y (but i understand why they were written that way). i found out about the two trc universe series two months ago. the books spanned many years. if i were an OG reader, i think i’d be thrilled to have read the last page.

overall, very impressed with the two series. i’d heard good things about it on instagram and decided to give it a go. had no idea it would be so rooted in magic and fantasy. i was very thrown off by noah’s existence and subsequent Big Reveal in the first book; i was worried i wouldn’t like the rest of the books. i’m so glad i pushed past my initial surprise.

i’m debating rereading it all again, or maybe just the first series?, now that i know gansey&blue and ronan&adam end up together. could be a challenge bc i read all but the first book via the library…

shoutout to all the character development that happened in this series.

also i am sooooo stoked to be able to look at fanart and posts about trc on social media now without worrying about spoilers!!!!!! i thought i was in the clear after i finished the last trc book, but i was very mistaken, as i found out v quickly. i think im in the clear now? very excited to eat up all the fan content i’ve been missing out on over the last decade.

sending my love to gansey, blue, ronan, adam, declan, matthew, hennessey, jordan, carmen, chainsaw, and anyone i might be forgetting bc dang there were so many people and not-people that i loved over the course of these books <3

Trying to gather my thoughtssss okay first of all !!!!.. the lynch brothers mean everything to me . The growth and challenges they went through from the raven cycle to here is insane

The art . Very very cool how art is connected to dreams and dreamers and magic and the mysteries of the world, sweetmetals that wake those sleeping . And ronans a dreamer, a dream, and declan is passionate about art, and the two things are different but they arent, they actually connect, and declan spent the better part of his life both fighting with and protecting ronan, a constant push and pull throughout the series, but finally , Magic and art is connected, and so declan and ronan are connected too, and they both form close bonds with two related dreamers !!!/!! declan sees ronan’s danger and his anger and he finally accepts it for what it is, his brother and his magic and his “power beyond measure.” and ronan sees that declan hides and leaves who he could truly be away, but then declan becomes something truthful and falls in love with someone he really cares for, and declan smiles unbridled and cries in front of ronan and theyre just both themselves now completely, without hiding, and they love each other for it and hug and support each other, and ronan’s dreams, instead of frightening declan, become his saviors, first with the sundogs, and then at the very end, when they all come to declan’s side, to cry with him so he isnt alone . declan embraces the dreams .

hennessy tattoos a sweetmetal onto ronan’s skin, snakeskin, wakes him up, descends into the lace for him and adam, and faces her fears, and jordan has a wonderful journey of separating herself from hennessy and being who she is on her own, and theyre away for so long but they are still connected by the dreams and the lynch’s and they still protect each other in the end, hennessy comes for jordan and drags her away from the house and the danger .

adam says he’s done and it breaks your heart but he isnt truly done . he visits ronan and he brings him chainsaw, goes looking for her, even, just to provide that comfort to him even though he doesnt know if ronan can see or hear him . he faces the danger, the probable death of scrying without a spotter just to bring ronan back, and ronan doesnt want him to so he prevents it, prevents it, but he eventually goes into the lace so adam isnt alone . and theyre a tangled tree of emotion and consciousness and ronan doesnt look like himself but they recognize each other anyway

the love in this book is powerful and threaded through every page . I dont know how the author accomplished this for every book but its managed to make me crumble everytime i finished another book in the series

and now im done and its over and im completely void of the fear that i held for these characters that they would never reach peace . thats what ive been vying for the entire time and they finally got it, and we even get a moment where declan and ronan accept the grief for their parents after so long and let it go . the moth goes into the sky , the hawk flies away , and declan is finally able to accept that the moth shouldnt be contained, lets it out , and ronan accepts it and gets engaged to adam

grief drives them all in different ways, like it always has, but in graywaren we finally see them letting some of it go, mourning it, but accepting it for what it is, painful and unfair, and living with the thought that they could be free from the intensely harsh grip it holds.

ronan is someone that is so deeply imbedded with grief from the very first book that hes harmful to not only people around him, but to himself and his environment . It grips him completely and hes so full of self hatred at the beginning of things it seems impossible that he isn’t destined for a tragic future, which is all the more reason to love him as he confronts everything he hurts from . theres so much to him, he isnt just rage, he has people and things he loves and cherishes and the moment where gansey says something about, “being a teenager sucked” was so .. it felt like a gut punch, almost. because yes, reading about them all discovering this magic and what it makes them and what they do with it is interesting and beautiful and incomparable to anything ive read before, but while they discover it all they also face insurmountable trauma, both from what they delve into with cabeswater and what they’ve experienced in their past . the truth of it is they shouldnt have had to face it all, and they shouldnt have had to be the ones to save the world and their town and support each other beause they were only teenagers, but they did it anyway, and they loved each other through it .

Ok, this is becoming more about the raven cycle, but its the last book so im allowing myself to connect the two and make this about alllll of it

i will admit the storyline for carmen, liliana, and hennessy felt unfinished, left, but an apocalypse Was about to occur, so? im glad carmen was not killed off . my girl has been battling to keep her morals and be proud of who she is and she didnt deserve to be destroyed by her brother, who was, maybe, the root cause of why carmen falls into the idea that dreamers deserve to die, and that is not who she wanted to be anymore, so it is good she wasn’t ultimately defeated by it.

also left without complete closure was bryde and the lynch brothers. there was definitely still more there we coulve seen, with matthew and bryde, and with a clear sign of if bryde was out of their lives forever or if he wasnt . he was the enemy in the last half of mister impossible, so to leave this undone feels like a question without an answer, all the way from call down the hawk.

i thinkkkkk thats pretty much what i have to say For now, and now im going to try and preform daily tasks without thinking about ronan lynch which is probably going to be impossible. im so sad it is over and i held off as long as i could in finishing this series but it was just time to face their ending, whether it would break me or not, and im glad that it didnt and that these characters are happy .

some Things i rlly rlly liked: Adams true accent coming out around ronan, adam worrying about chainsaw, declan preforming a convincing acting of throwing up to go and pick up the sweetmetal he threw out of the car in front to back traffic, the quote, “Declan loved Ronan, so Ronan lived,” aka, saving each other since childhood, hennessy and ronan having a little inside joke about a song the same way ronan has the joke with adam and gansey, ronan’s confidence in his abilities to wake an entire lay line but still being afraid of messing it up, adam and ronan teaching opal to swim, blue and gansey trying to tell ronan about sociology and ronan internalizing about 5 percent of it yet still glad to hear the “droning on”, gansey putting the little assurance into ronan that adam wants to get married, the quote about calla, mara, and gwenllian “guiding ronan through high school” and of course, adam and ronan’s first thoughts after they both wake up being each other .

oh yea lets not talk abt how i was fooled for like the 100th time by maggie into thinking someone wasnt a dream but they were . SHE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS . Or maybe i shouldve just started assuming everything was a dream . Which is probably how ronan felt, not knowing what was real and what wasnt… Ok shes a genius yeah.

its over and it hurts and i am not ok and will i ever be? that remains to be seen, but im glad i read this series despite it

No entiendo nada.

I feel like I would have liked this better if I had read the rest of the series more recently. Rereading the Raven Cycle would have helped some too. I felt like I forgot too much to make this as meaningful as it could have been.

I love reading more about who Ronan is and where he came from. His backstory made so much sense, and I liked that he got to choose what he ended up becoming. After all, it’s our choices that define us, not where we were born.
