What a spectacular way to end a decade-long adventure! I rarely think a series of books ends perfectly, but I feel like Greywaren ended exactly as it was meant to. It's a book that you hug as soon as you finish it. It was just that wonderful.

I like the concept about works of art being imbued with a sort of magic that keeps humans awake, and aware, not sunken into unconsciousness.

Otherwise, this book made me tired. I expected it to be a larger book, more epic. But the size of the book is small. And it is scattered with a half dozen too many characters that are given thin sketches of personality and motivation.

I do not want to belittle the author. This is just my opinion.

I feel somewhat tricked however. Like a rug pulled out from underfoot.

A large group of "fan" readers take an interest in the characters of Ronan and Adam.

The dudes don't have much page time in this novel. When we do see them, they are separate, and then their feelings are soooo vague, and sure, maybe this allows for the fans to fill in the gaps about their private time. But somewhat, what I really get is the author's reluctance to address the guys' life. Sure, let's say that an author feels so deeply about characters that it literally hurts to publish the words that would describe their inner lives. OR, we can just **cough cough** suggest perhaps there's some lazy writing here. OR an author actually feels revulsion toward the characters.

I must state my opinion here that the ending feels especially lazy. After the wedding that is a surprise to no one, the last paragraph is on a rooftop. Ronan and Adam are on the rooftop, looking at stars, and they aren't talking to each other. Ronan hands Adam a ring. Adam puts it on.

Yuck. Two possibilities here. One: This is an engagement that occurs directly after a wedding. Very boring and bad taste. Two: the two of them have already been married or engaged or whatever, but they don't want anyone to know it. And this is again aiming toward the idea that people in same sex relationships have to keep hidden. Boooooo! I do not dig that.

3.5 stars. I got a little lost in all the action and how unexpected everything was by the end of the series. Part of the problem was probably that I was listening to it on audio. Ultimately, a fantastic series.

A gorgeous end to a gorgeous series. Maggie really looked at Joanne and said, “Hold my fucking beer.”

Damn, I'm going to miss these characters.

I wish I wasn't as disappointed in this book as I am. The villain reveal sucked.
