it must be said this book really did change my opinion on the trilogy for the better but like. sorry i can’t go any further without saying how furious the epilogue made me. hello. hello hello hello. okay as i was saying it did shift my opinion and i did have fun but it was not enough to make me actually Like the trilogy.
for all that Greywaren was able to tie it all together and make it all feel worth something, maggie and i just have two very very different ideas about how this story should have been executed and nothing she could have written in the final act could have undone that.
and i know i said it already but really the epilogue my goddddddd boo tomato tomato tomato

This book was a dream - confusing, abstract and breaking the rules. I think I liked it, I was very much invested in the lives of the characters. But did I like the bonkers storyline? I don’t know, I am still quite confused. Who was a dream, who was a dreamer? If possible then this was even more of a conundrum than the Raven Boys cycle, which I absolutely loved. There is something whimsical about Stiefvater’s writing style and plotting. It is smooth, it is unexplainable and it is exciting. But don’t expect me to explain the plot to anyone who hasn’t read the book…
Every time I read Stiefvater’s work it feels like she devastates me and stitches me back together all with the same breath. These brothers are so complex and wonderful and angry and it was so nice to see their arc.
Knowing this was the last book in my favorite world of all time, I really took my time with it. The themes are incredibly potent around identity and growth and love. How far you will go to protect what you love. The grief and repression hurt can cause.
The mask of older sibling existence really tore me apart, and Declan is so much more in this series than the Raven Cycle. Matthew snaps in a way we’d never seen before, and for good reason. Ronan risks losing everything. It was a lot. And I loved every moment of it. This truly was a story about the brothers Lynch.
I didn’t expect how much this made me cry - but that could be due to my own recent shadow work tackling the repression I have had for so long, just like Declan. The story of Niall’s influence on Ronan’s birth. The raw adoration and devotion within a family and among friends. Declan’s reaction when he thinks the worst has happened. Hennessy tackling her trauma and pain. Jordan’s struggle for autonomy. This book is a test of endurance for everyone involved, including the reader, oof.
These characters have a very solid place in my heart chamber, ever since I first met them. I will return to them eventually. Who knows, maybe I’ll decide to start back at the beginning and see this wild ride all over again.
