This was not a perfect book - deus ex dream stuffs, an eleventh-hour antagonist, etc - but it did have a perfect ending. The epilogue gave me everything I wanted and beautifully concluded the story of Ronan Lynch. After seven novels with these characters, how could I give Greywaren anything but five stars?

This was an extremely satisfying conclusion to this series. It makes me want to go back and reread every story that has Ronan Lynch in it. Well done. Great read.

If I ever reread this book it would probably be somewhere in the three star range. I'm not as big a fan of this series as I was the Raven Cycle just because I tend to enjoy smaller, more character-driven stories. However, I felt that this book had a satisfying conclusion and I enjoyed my time reading it.

There was a strange sort of magic to being a person holding another person after not being held by someone for a long time. There was another strange sort of magic to understanding you'd been using words and silence the wrong way for a long time.

The Raven Boys are so dear to me, perhaps this series was not perfect for me, but I was still so happy to come back to this world and Maggie Steifvater's beautifully magical writing. It is hard to write a review for the final book in a series, but what I must say is that this was by far my favourite instalment. I found that I was beginning to truly care for all the characters, the whimsical magic made a little more sense to me now (although Maggie's mind is still way beyond me) and the ending was one of the best I have ever seen in a trilogy. All-in-all, I am satisfied with this book, but I would not be opposed to a little more Ronan/Adam fluff here and there!

Greywaren review

I’ve loved this series and these characters for years. I’ve kept on coming back to them and that in itself is testament to my love for it.

This book has taught me so much about characters. All these characters are so intricate and detailed and real. They’re not necessarily likeable through their personality but having the time to get to know them, their flaws, worries, passions is what makes you love them. Ronan is still grumpy but we’ve really seen the fragility to him.

The plot is just amazing. This trilogy has followed a clear path throughout. The progression towards the apocalypse (and preventing the apocalypse). I felt it was well paced towards this. There was enough detail for this scene that made the build up worth it whilst not dedicating half the book so a single scene. The fast moving pace of this book is part of why I love it so I’m pleased this kept up.

There was a lack of Adam and Ronan scenes but we can still see their love and I like that this series isn’t a romance series fully of sweet scenes between couples. So whilst I wouldn’t mind seeing more Adam I’m happy that it focused on Ronans state of mind and in particular his relationship with his brothers.

The Lynch brothers are brilliant. I love all 3 of them for different reasons. Getting to see the side characters from the main series as main characters in themselves is really fun. I feel I have such a vast, immersive knowledge of this universe which is nice. Declan is not boring, Matthew is not perfect, Ronan is not (only) a dick.

This book is very busy. I think the series lost its split and defined narratives when they all merged and whilst they had to merge it felt that Farooq Lane’s plot sort of got lost beneath the Lynch brothers. Hennessey and Jordan fit into the boys story seamlessly and I loved their inclusion.

I mean the concept of the dreams coming to life is fantastic. The revelation that Ronan is also sort of a dream is brilliant. Mor (the lynch mother) returning was something possibly a little unnecessary? Bringing a dreamt protype of Niall Lynch with her sort of discredits Declan’s internal journey of recovering from his father’s death. The plot twists of Matthew dying (but thankfully not!) was great. It kept me tense and worried and shows that these characters are so loved.

The ending/ Epilogue was perfect. Seeing all the characters from the main series as well as the dreamer trilogy was so fun. A crossover I want more of (and wished we’d had in this series if I’m honest). I think it’s hilarious that after the world ending and dreams coming to life that it all ends with a wedding. It’s brilliant. But not anticlimactic, they’re dreams/ dreamers/ witches/ Scryers but they’re sort of human first. Having a human celebration. The little titbits from Ronan and Gansey’s conversation about what has been going on in Gansey and Blues life keeps me intrigued. Is there ever going to be more to this series…? Because just would read it!

When you get to the last book of a series, you can't help but review it alone and as a series as a whole. My general assessment is this: Steifvater's prose is always a treat. Loved the characters (Declan! Jordan! Matthew!). Didn't care for the plot/execution of the plot.
