Quite a good story for young readers with great imaginations. The author does a great job building a world where book wandering is a focus of exploration that is subject to corruption by power-hungry adults. It's reminiscent of HP in this respect. Recommended. p.s. I missed the first book and was ok understanding the situation in book 2.

I have wanted to continue in this series since I read the first book but only got to it a few weeks ago. After about 40 pages I put this down because I felt like I may need to read the first book again, which I didn’t really want to do. I picked it ip again for middle grade March and it took me less than 24 hours to polish it off. I was underwhelmed because it feels like a placeholder in a longer series. Not much happens and it ends on a cliffhanger. I will keep reading the series because I bought them; the comparison to Tuesday Next but on a MG level was irresistible to me. 2.5 stars.

Such a good book!! And while the ending is cliffhanger-esque, I loved it and can't wait for the next book!!

Another quick cozy adventures with Tilly and Oscar, this time during the Christmas season. The atmosphere and warmth was just as enjoyable as in book 1 but I felt a little bit disappointed by other parts. I loved their visit to Paris and how that enhanced their knowledge of underlibraries just as much as their stroll through a book of fairy tales. It was so much fun to meet all these emancipated heroines and I wish there had been more of that.

This novel showed a lot of potential for moral ambiguity and the exploration of grey spaces but unfortunately it concluded with the same old good/bad categories as before. At least, Tilly started rebelling against her grand parents and questioning the things she's told. I also liked how Bee wasn't portrayed as a perfect mother but as a person who has trouble adapting to her new old life. I wish we had more of Tilly's insight on what it is like for her to have a mother like that. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to book 3, there were a lot of interesting open threads at the end of this one after all.
