I've tried to listen to the first book as an audiobook but couldn't connect with it so promised myself to find the physical book and give it a try. While browsing returned books in my library O found two books in the series but wasn't sure in what order but put it in my bag anywho. Even though this was the second in a series I didn't feel like it ruined much of my reading experience not to have read the first one. A cozy, magical and an all right fun reading experience. Exactly what I love with middle grade/children's books.
This series is really enchanting. I loved reading this with my 9 year old. A well-told story; not too scary and not too sweet.
Finished it this morning with Violet and we’re so absorbed in the series, we went to the bookstore this afternoon to pick up the next one!
Loved that this one focused on fairytales (even more accessible/familiar to Violet) than the stories used in the previous book. This one is a bit more menacing in terms of what’s happening in the fairytales, but thankfully not nightmare-prompting for Violet. I think Violet also appreciated Tilly’s adolescent struggles for independence from her grandparents who are trying to keep her safe. We also both enjoyed Tilly’s developing relationship with her mom, and the mixed gender friendship between Tilly and Oscar.

It ends without any resolution and on a cliffhanger. I enjoyed the story itself, but the ending lands it in a solid 3 star territory.

“Books aren't interested in who is reading them... A book will welcome any reader; any age, any background, any point of view. Books don't care if you can't understand every word in them, or if you want to skip bits or reread bits. Books welcome everyone who wants to explore them, and thankfully no one has ever worked out a way to stop that.”
I really enjoyed diving back into the Book Wandering world. I loved Tilly and Oskar and I was so excited to carry on with their journey.
The plot was really interesting and the characters, New and Old, were brilliant.
I loved meeting the new characters and seeing Tilly and Oskar wander into the stories and we got to see a problem emerge, a problem that Tilly and Oskar decide to try and fix.
