Tilly and the Bookwanderers is one of most favourite books of all time. I've read it countless times and for years, I've been wanting to read the second novel of the series. You can't imagine how happy I am for finally reading it!
It's always a pleasure to get lost into Anna James' unique setting. Countless times I wished I could bookwander and meet my favourite characters! The magic system is so creative and in this book we get to learn more about bookwandering and how it works.
This book was cozy and charming but compared to the first one, I found it to be more adventurous and packed with more action. I was both excited and curious to see what would happen next and the mystery aspect kept me hooked till the very end. The book also focused more on the politics of the Underlibrary, which added more to the world building. I personally liked this aspect of the story and it was intriguing to see how things work in this mysterious organisation.
The characters were as charming as they always. I adore Tilly and Oskar's friendship and their interactions were so funny! Oskar was the voice of reason in this book, while Tilly was more impulsive. Yes, compared to the first novel, Tilly was more naive and she wasn't very willing to follow her grandparents' advices, but I honestly couldn't blame her. She is still young and she's trying to learn more about bookwandering and her new abilities, while trying to stop Underwood's plans and investigate the strange events that take place in the fairy tales. Therefore, her naivety and stubbornness didn't bother me at all and she was still the same curious and charming little girl whom I love.
I really liked the scenes when she bonded with her mother since her rescue and they made me feel so warm inside. The new characters were fun to read and they added more charm to the story and of course I loved every moment with the characters from fairy tales! As for the antagonists, they were pretty interesting and I genuinely want to see more of them in the third book.
Another aspect that I liked was that the book addressed sexism and stereotypes and gender roles in fairy tales. For example, Rapunzel appears to be more independent and she refused to be saved by any prince, since she could manage on her own. It was a welcome surprise, since I didn't expect the book to tackle this subject and it was refreshing to see Tilly and Oskar's comments about the whole matter.
The writing was as charming and magical as in the first book. It was so vivid and alongside the beautiful illustrations, it made me feel like I was inside the book. There were some remarkable quotes about reading and books and they made me fall in love with reading once again.
I still can't get over that cliffhanger ending! As soon as I closed the book, I immediately searched for the third one! I'll definitely read it this year since I don't think that I have the patience to wait long. I love this series so much and I want to read this book again! Give a try to Pages & Co and travel with the characters inside stories full of mystery, magic and books.

I thought this was such a great continuation of the Pages and Co. It picked up right where the first book left. I love how we were able to travel to France for a little while. I think Tilly and Oskar are growing as characters. The plot is thickening with what is happening to the Underlibrary and Fairy Tales. Tilly is such a clever young lady and is figuring things out and finding out more about herself since she is half fictional and half human. The way the story ends I can not wait to continue with the series and finding out what happens next.
