I think I wouldn't have enjoyed it this much if I hadn't read the series first. Now I can laugh at Attolia ogling Eugenides and vice versa :D
Also, Eddis practicing with a crossbow so that she can land the shot into a volcano is a tiny detail I find funny and endearing at the same time.
