Arianna’s best friend is captured by her former Master, Baleros. She’s forced to infiltrate an institute of Shadow Fae to recover the World Key and bring it back to him. Only when Arianna begins to learn from her mentor Ruadan is she faced with the complicated decision of how to complete this task.

I…don’t even know where to begin with this book. It had SO much potential. Dark far, seemingly impossible task, potential enemies to lovers. Fantasy out the rear.  I would have LOVED this book had it not lacked world development, character development, a continuous story…The list goes on.

The main character gave off pompous, “I know I’m hot shit” vibes. She had such the promise for revealing a massively troubled past that she’s working to get over, but do we ever get an explanation? No. Just repeated uses of “I’m ruthless” and “gotta have my bug-out bag and lollipops” because that’s her quirk.

Wildly frustrated with this book. Not sure why it has such high ratings elsewhere. Maybe I just want something more developed and less teen-reader.

2 stars. And if you feel like I’m being harsh, oh well. Literally haven’t felt this upset for spending time on a book since Crave.
