Very, very interesting. These 3 stories are strange, moving and feel multi-layered and ambitious. A very small book that packs a punch. I am definitely going to read whatever else Emilio Fraia will publish that I can find in English.

Thanks to @lollieditions for sending me this beautifully melancholic collection of three short stories! ad/PR product
Translated from the Portuguese by Zoe Perry, Sevastopol by Brazilian author Emilio Fraia is apparently based on The Sevastopol Sketches by Tolstoy, but do NOT worry if you are like me and have no idea what those are. Sure, if you are familiar with them, there’s likely another layer of enjoyment you’ll get from this. But I promise that if you’re oblivious like me, it’s still a great little read!
My favourite story was by far the first one, a beautiful and kind of haunting story about a young woman whose life changed after climbing Mount Everest. The second story was not as enjoyable for me, but the third story was again fab, another woeful (I like sad books okay) narrative about a playwright.
There’s not much going on plot-wise with these stories, but if you enjoy more introspective narratives coupled with sparse yet beautiful prose, you should definitely check out this collection!

A bit too disjointed for my taste. Too many digressions. Perhaps I should have concentrate more, but I kept finding my mind wandering...
