Honestly, this is the second time I’ve read this series, but I’m tired of a lot of things. Maybe it’s because it’s my second time that I notice all of these things but you’d think for once that Sophie wouldn’t tell everyone of her friends EVERYTHING, so that when one defects, like Keefe or Tam, not every single thing is lost. Like Mr. Forkle spent so much time behind the scenes because he wanted to have the element of surprise if he revealed himself, or Sophie’s enhancing ability which was supposed to maker her more vulnerable, hence the important secret, and yet like 10 people got told in the first few hours?! All of these advantages RUINED because everyone knows everything and the Neverseen knew as soon as they read Tams mind. Also, is anyone else getting super annoyed that every single book Keefe promises to do something and then betrays Sophie? Like promising to stay far away from the fight and then SHOWING UP unannounced, giving his mom exactly what she wanted? Yeah to “bring and exit strategy” but considering the other group in the marketplace did just fine by themselves, I’m sure they could have found a way out after Gisela left (had Keefe not shown up). ALSO SOPHIE NEVER GETS MAD AT HIM FOR LONGER THAN A FEW HOURS?! It’s ridiculous!! And this series is really getting on my nerves the more I realize all of this. And yes, I understand that Keefe has the best intentions most of the time, but does he EVER learn from his mistakes?? NO!

I’m not even halfway thru the book yet but man. Fitz is such an abusive shithead.

Yes, yes thank fucking god yes I hope Fitzphie is over forfuckingever. She finally realized what an asshat he is yes!! Oh btw this is about their big fight after she finds out who her mom is. And I haven’t read further yet but I really hope that they stay done.

Ahh why do they always have to end on cliffhangers. At least before I had the next book

Of course the book that gets me all caught up is the one whose cliffhanger kills me the most. Alright. I get it.

Note to authors: When you're writing a series, leave your readers wanting more. End on a high note. Don't drag things out until readers hate your books, but only keep reading because they've already invested SO MUCH time in the series. Your books should be getting more interesting and action packed towards the end of a series, not dragging and filled to the brim with filler.

This book could have been 200 pages instead of 800 pages, and still told the same story. This was 90% conversations, and 10% things actually happening. We had the same conversation probably 10 times. Sophie wondering if she should do something. Sandor (her bodyguard) stepping in and saying she absolutely should not. Then everyone arguing about it some more. And Sandor saying maybe they should see what her parents think. And then some adult surprising everyone by saying it's actually not a bad idea for her to do the thing. And then they debate about it some more for 50 more pages. And then she goes ahead and does the thing. I wish I was kidding. Two stars is generous for this book.

I really hope there is only one more book in the series, and the author won't decide she can actually drag this out just to make more money, even though she really doesn't have more story to tell. The start of this series had so much promise, but there is absolutely no reason this series needs to be 9 books that are 800 pages long. Middle grade readers don't have that kind of attention span.
