This book will be living rent free in my head until the next book comes out 😭. Once I started listening I could not stop. I loved the world, the magic system and the characters. Arken, the FMC, is a rare conduit of light....and more. Spymaster Kieran, a wielder of shadows can't seem to stay away from Arken. They are both drawn to eachother, becoming friends....even though the romantic tension is clearly overwhelming. Arken has one big secret that she can tell absolutely no one. Kieran also has plenty of secrets. The end of this book destroyed me, hardcore emotional damage, I was balling. So, if you like romantasy with a generous side of emotional damage, read this book!! I cannot recommend it enough!
Story is incredibly intriguing. However, there is way too much “telling” and not enough “showing,” as well as too much about the characters and not the actual plot itself. I did enjoy it, but wish that the lore, plot, and world was expanded on more, especially as this is such an interesting idea. The prologue had me immediately wrapped, only for that feeling to not be followed up with in the rest of the book.
