It feels weird to rate someone's memoir but I want to give it many stars to counterbalance the deductions by other reviewers based on the book's structure.

The non-linear narrative was a clever and interesting choice. If it feels fragmented, that's exactly the point. It is also refreshingly different from the more typical year-by-year account. This is not a typical autobiography after all.

This was such a good read and while it was one I could have read in one setting, it can be quite a heavy read and multiple sessions were beneficial to me.

As other reviewers have shared, the time jumps in the book were a bit hard to digest. (for example; going from a story of elliot at age 6 and then jumping to age 19 and back to age 6 and then to age 28) I had trouble keeping up with the time jumps. Altogether though, thank you Elliot Page for sharing yourself with us. I appreciate you.

I have a lot more thoughts, but I would start rambling if I tried to fit them all into a review, so here’s the summary:

I think Pageboy is an insanely important piece of literature to read, especially in times where trans*phobia and queerphobia are on the rise.

The memoir unveils new perspectives on what it means to be trans and queer in Hollywood; it is unapologetic but never unfair in its accusations. Elliot Page also does a good job recognising the privileges he has.

The prose and storytelling are impeccable, but the nonlinear narrative is confusing at times.

The topics discussed in this memoir do lean on the heavier side, with their descriptions often graphic. but never for the shock factor.

Please read the TW and CW before reading this and read safely (Book Trigger Warnings has a more extensive list than on here).

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to anyone who asks, or doesn’t.
