Okay so I just finished that in about half an hour because I was just so into it which I’ve been missing from all the books/poetry I’ve read this year !
Favourite poems were : The other night, spirit animal and you ask me why I love you.
This was the perfect balance between tongue and cheek poetry and lyrically beautiful and deep poetry,
Also any book that mentions a raccoon as their spirit animal is 100% for me
A very specific 3.5/5 stars ✨

Thank you to the author for providing me with an early copy of this fun book! I’m glad I read this collection because it’s so different than how I write poetry, and different than a lot of other poetry I read. It’s a trippy experience. Every poem is unapologetic in its own voice, word choices, and themes – I definitely appreciated that. The second half of the book is where I thought some of the strongest pieces really shone. “Saint Jackie” has some great lines: “My life is a fairy tale/ My life is a tragedy/ I am not a theory/ My body politic hurts and bleeds and burns”

This is poetry that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which makes it refreshing to read, yet at the same time you can see these pieces reflect how we connect with other people like in “Tumblr Porn Star Diaries.” The poet’s voice is her own, and I appreciated the commentary she weaves between her stories.

Favorites: “No Lint, Just Feathers & Dirt”, “FB Is My Tarot Deck”, “There is An Expansiveness in the Air Tonight”, “The Other Night”, “YouTube Ads Are Speaking to Me”, “Making Honey” and “Death by Honey”

This book will make you smile, cringe, groan, get teary-eyed, and clinch up your butt cheeks. It does what good words should do: make you say WTF and YES! in the same breath. I was surprised and engaged, particularly by the pair of honey poems centering the book.
