A compelling beginning and a hypnotic ending, though the middle dragged a bit. Maybe at another time in my life this would have been 3 or 4 stars, but the way the MC was able to articulate and embody her grief somehow weirdly resonated with me. (I didn't expect to be comforted by a sentient zombie with a sense of humor, but here we are!) Have a feeling I'll be carrying this novella in my thoughts for a long time.

DNF at page 71.

Maybe this book was a little too abstract for me. I wanted to like it. I saw the themes of grief and loss and wanted to get it so bad. I was more confused than anything. I’ll try to pick it up again at some point. My library loan is about to lapse and I just can’t force myself to get through it.

The writing is beautiful but it's so metaphorical it's essentially plotless. Maybe if I had done some research on the book, author, and what the author was trying to convey b/f I started, I might have enjoyed it more and finished.

If you like beautiful writing for beautiful writings sake, you'll probably enjoy it.

Typically not a fan of zombie fiction, but something about this novella just hits. An exploration of grief through the lens of a zombie at the end of the world?? Who would've thought. The allegory of hunger as grief is fantastic. The prose is poetic, and desperately tries to grasp at that which cannot be held.

I'll be sitting with this one for a while.
