It Lasts Forever and then it’s over really sticks with you. The writing is simple but hits hard: kind of like someone quietly telling you the truth you didn’t know you needed to hear. It’s emotional without being dramatic, and there’s this calm sadness running through it that feels really honest. My only small gripe is that it leaves a lot unsaid, which might not be for everyone. But honestly, that’s also what makes it so powerful. Quiet, beautiful, and full of palpable yearning. 4.5/5

Maybe closer to 4 stars. Beautifully written, short and easy to finish. I wouldn’t say this grabbed my attention and was “unputdownable” but I finished it in two sittings. For me, this story is, at its heart, a love story - not only romantic, but for the loves we have in our lives that at some stage we lose and must grieve, whether that be a person or a memory or an experience or, in the case of our protagonist, of an entire lifetime ahead of them they had imagined prior to their death. It’s a very human book and the ending was very sad. Beautiful, though at times it could feel confusing and I felt that some parts would require multiple reads for me to fully grasp their meaning.

This book was a bit tricky to get a grasp on because I’ve never interacted with any zombie media lol. But from what I understood it’s more about the distance to yourself and the world around you. Very eerie and quite haunting.

for me, this book is a thing of haunting beauty, a lucid dream of an apocalyptic afterlife. will not be everyone’s five star cup of tea, but i am here for it.
