Brilliant - sweary, violent, sexy and bloody, and a heroine to die for. She’s likely the one who’ll have stuck the blade in, mind you.
I’ll definitely be returning to the Darkness.
Another triumph for Mr Kristoff.

After finishing the great Empire of the Vampire I frustratingly found out that book 2 has not yet reached the shelves. Angrily I grabbed Evernight - I’ll teach this author a lesson!
And it was fantastic. Twists. Turns. Shadows. Action. Sold!

I can tell you I got about 10% into this book 5 years ago and don't think I'll ever go back to it. It's just bad and life is too short to read bad books. YOLO.
After borrowing this book from the library a few times, I was finally able to conquer this book the 3rd time around. You definitely have to get through the first 100 pages before you enjoy everything this book has to offer.
Rarely am I torn on what to rate a book but good god I am so torn on what to rate this.
The first 100 pages felt as if the raven boys and shatter me had a baby but the baby was born with a speech impediment.
Seriously it was so bad, just a bunch of half thought out similes thrown in by the handful and strung together trying to resemble complete sentences.
But after those dreaded 100 pages it got. So. Good.
The main character was incredible, the storyline simple enough but super addictive and well planned. The twists, the discoveries, the betrayal, all of it came completely out of left field and hit me with the force of a semi truck.
I am really surprised I ended up loving this book as much as I did because I was so close to DNFing and putting the whole series behind me. So glad I preserved and have already bought and started on the next one :P Hopefully the first quarter of it fairs better than this one did…

You had me at school of assassins. This was totally fucking amazeballs. It had magic. It had murder. It had mayhem. It had smut (albeit a very small bit). I'm ready for book 2. Which I have so go away and let me read!
