I cannot believe this lived up to the hype. Will definitely continue with the series; I've been recommending it to some friends of mine who don't really read anymore but loved Mass Effect. Took off half a star because the way the climax shook out annoyed me a little.

I didn't love this one but I'm chalking it up to my interests being a little more "very intense" or "incredibly lightheaded" and this one blended in bits of sardonic humor which I usually love. I may have liked this more if it was narrated in third person. The world was cool though.
I'm interested in reading another of the series another time to give it another shot.

The first book in The Murderbot Diaries is an amusing sci fi that made me laugh aloud. The titular Murderbot is narrating and it's like watching an introvert at a party where everyone insists on including them in every activity, despite their discomfort. Also the party has pew pew.

Although I loved the understated performance of the voice actor, I have two criticisms of the audiobook recording:
1) the term "kilos" is used when I think "kms" is meant, although I don't have the physical text to confirm. I'm surprised that this issue was not picked up, as hearing a measurement of weight every time a measurement of distance is meant always gave me pause.
2) the sound was set very low and I really had to crank up the volume.

These issues are relatively minor and I'm keen to continue the series. It may become a new favourite!

a short and fun sci-fi novella that offered great concepts, quick writing and a hilarious, socially awkward and sarcastic bot as main character.
also found family!
can't wait to continue the murderbot diaries and get my hands on more martha wells books, because the writing and humour were just *chef's kiss*.

still my favorite sci-fi book, i love it so much. it's funny, entertaining, heart-warming, easy to get through, suspenseful. murderbot and all the others have grown on me. whenever i don't know what to read, i pick up this book and it results in me wanting to tear through the whole rest series again.
a book i will ALWAYS always recommend.
