what a charming read!! can't deny that eileen the grandmother is my favorite & i loved her storyline the most, but altogether such a wonderful book. these characters are emotional, loving, whimsical, funny, creative, and so entertaining. the ending gave me FULL body chills!! head to toe!!!!

the only thing i absolutely hated about this audiobook was the inclusion of the sounds of the narrators swallowing or, like, licking their lips? i'm not sure if they were trying to make it more authentic, but it just sounded like their mouths were dry and they needed water or chapstick or something and i couldn't stop noticing it throughout my readthrough. almost took me out of it at times but i plowed through. for that -.25stars.

This book tells the story of Leena and her Grandmother Eileen swapping lives for six weeks, both need a break and choose to bark on this adventure. We see Leena move to the countryside where her Grandmother lives, and learns to fit into village life after living and working in London. Meanwhile Eileen has moved into Leena's apartment in London with her flatmates. Eileen tries online dating and going on adventures. Both Leena and Eileen are grieving for Carla, Leena's sister. Grief is woven into the storey beautifully, and the book still remains light in nature. Such a fun read to start the year.

This was a book I picked up on audio when it was first released and for whatever reason (British narrators usually really work for me), it didn’t click at the time.

I’m so happy I gave it another try because it was exactly what I needed at this moment and I loved it the whole way through.

You might enjoy this book if you tend to love stories about older people continuing to discover themselves and to live rich lives. Think The Lido, Eudora Honeysett, Lilian Boxfish… Also, if you enjoy a story about community, small town life, and all of the funny, complicated things that can happen in such places, this read will give you that.

In tone, I was reminded of the titles I’ve read by Jenny Colgan - light romance, gentle insights about life, a little heartbreak, happy but still believable endings.

Oh, and this book has SO many cups of tea in it, if that gives you a sense of how cozy and heartwarming it is.

I adored it!
