I'm all for a tense book and all but the abuse happening in this one was legendary...(spoilers) enough to push the main character toward a suicide attempt. I have never read a book that stressed me out this much.

Spoilers: An actual quote from the book sums up everything nicely :
They've poisoned me and beaten me down with words and lies.

Oh, and can someone tell me what part of this was spicy? I thought I signed up for a romance novel and ended up with depression instead.

Very much loved the book enough to read it one sitting but I need a very thorough redemption arc/groveling for some of these characters!

I devoured this book!
For fans of the bonds that tie series & are hurting now that it’s over.. this one is for you!
It’s very similar in style & themes - but the plot is different enough.
All MC’s have been held in a faculty & experimented on, until something goes wrong & the FMC is split up from the 4 mmc.
The mmcs believe that she went against them, so when - years later - she is finally able to help break them out… they all hate her! (Cue angst ❤️‍🔥)
There is a lot of mystery about their powers & they are also trying to find out information about themselves which propels the story forward.
There were moments I wanted a bit more tension between them all, but I was still satisfied with how everything played out.

In the last 100 pages we got a lot of answers & resolutions between the characters… but the ending left us with so much more to explore without the world! Especially the relationships between all the mc’s
The spice was ok, but hoping that expands in future books - which I am expecting it too.

Overall I think it was a great solid start to a series, I’m hooked & cant wait to keep reading

If you were a fan of Maximum Ride growing up then this book is perfect for you! Riva and her boys have lived as supernatural experiments their entire lives. When they seize an opportunity to escape as teenagers, it ends with one dead and Riva separated from the group. Four years later, after a new power emerges, Riva escapes again desperate to be reunited with Jacob, Zian, Dominic and Andreas. Only to discover they blame her for their friend’s death. Left without a choice, they drag her along to discover what made them the way they are.

I was hooked right away. I love a friends turned enemies trope. It creates amazing tension where the fmc is forced to go along with the group because she wants nothing more to prove that she isn’t the monster they think she is. You never had to guess at the characters motivations which creates a very compelling cast of characters and plot to move the story along. As a fan of Maximum Ride, I love a experimented on group of teenagers turned adults trying to discover what their true propose is. There is a tiny bit of spice with the promise of more. And between the slight cliffhanger and my interest in their creation story in general I will be reading the next book.
