This was excellent. I started with the ebook and then saw some comments online recommending the audiobook so I switched over - so happy I did! I’ve never read a memoir before but this… wow. What a brave thing to write and publish. Super heartbreaking, especially hearing it through Jennette’s voice. Would recommend to others in a heartbeat, but would also advise reading trigger warnings ahead of time because this content is very heavy.

This book. It feels weird to sum up in words what I think of someone else’s life story and traumas. For that reason, I’m not rating it, but I’ll try to talk more about how this book made me feel rather than critique the content.

I’m Glad my Mom Died is a memoir about the author’s experience as a child star on Nickelodeon, having a narcissistic mother, eating disorders, religious deconstruction, OCD, and other things. I highly recommend listening to this 100% on audiobook at 1.0x. It’s worth taking the time to hear the author’s voice inflections as she tells her story.

This book isn’t light. The quip on the cover saying it’s funny is weird to me because it’s not. It’s heavy and it’s dark at times. I waited to read this until I felt I was in a place to be able to handle it. It made me feel angry, baffled, but most of all sad. Not just for the author, but for so many who struggle with similar issues as her and her mother. What I deeply appreciate the most is she takes a good amount of the book to share her experiences in therapy. It’s a raw account of how hard therapy is and that healing is not a linear process. We don’t get it right immediately and sometimes it’s gets harder before it gets better.

I’m so grateful for her willingness to share her story with the world. I took pieces I needed out of it for my own life. It was truly a privilege to listen to her story.

wowowow what a powerful and heartbreaking book. Jennette McCurdy does an excellent job of narrating stories from across her life with empathy, perspective, and humor amid the darkness of abuse.

I also appreciated how there were subtle comments that helped establish the passing of time - sometimes by mentioning ironically what song was on the radio in a given anecdote. McCurdy is truly funny, with many biting lines or jokes that made me gasp or laugh out loud.

I did not realize how explicit this memoir would be, both in using explicit language and describing sexual content in detail. That being said, it is in service of the overwhelming nature of the story. Please prepare yourself.

Wow, what a read.
Jennette’s openness, vulnerability, and honesty was on display throughout the entire book. You can tell she did the work and did it the right way. This was an inspiring read to me both professionally and personally. Though it was difficult to read at times due to the content and triggers she discusses, it’s all there. She put herself out there and deserves any and all praise she receives.

I wish you the best in life Jennette.👏🏽

The book talks about what happen in her life in order and gives details . Jeannette had anxiety , self loathing , had eating disorder, health issues. These issues happen when her mom push her into being an actress. Jeannette’s mom  wanted to live jennette life through her and anted to control very single in life and always dream of being famous actress making jennette a star. Mom made extreme disturbing hen she was 11 years old taught about calorie restriction , bleaching her, whitening her teeth, her mom completely ruined her life, its not right to bathing your daughter until she was 17 yers old. What i was shocked finding these things. When got the lead in the show I Carly playing Sam Puckett her loved food but she delevopeda eating disorder. Later on she on this other Nickelodeon show Sam and Cat. Ariana who played Cat. In the show, Jennete find out that Ariana as getting paid more that her. Jennette didnt like Ariana gets to miss film the show to go press tours, recording music videos. I remember this episode where Ariana was not in this episode most of the episode called lock in a box. She made acted with the box.  Dan Schneider wouldn’t let her miss filming days she’s been comparing her self it’s Ariana like she been personal attacked and robbed in this industry . Dan Schneider got exposed for being weird and other accusation like inappropriate sexual behavior writing inappropriate things in his shows always showing feet. On icarly, she was getting yelled at by Dan to reshoot the scene several times she as a kissing here uncomfortable with and Dan wanted a real kiss but her costar helped her out ( Nathan Kress), Dan wanted to her pictures of her in a bikini in wardrobe fitting was explicitly. He encourage drinking alcohol when most of the cast was underage , he always compare icarly with the victorious cast ( Dan directed )
