I definitely not the target audience for this book. Katniss is so bland but the premise of the book is decent.

First time I read this I was 8, so I really desensitized myself to the violence at the time. A lot of themes kind of went over my head, but now that I've reread it as an adult, I've come to really appreciate the world building. Another thing I've come to recognize is the genius way Suzanne Collins manages to expose the major divides within our society, while still being palatable to kids without completely scarring them for life. Even though this book is marketed towards children, I've still yet to find any book that addresses the concept of "Bread and Circuses" in our society in such a direct way. I wish everyone read it, and I hate that popular culture and Hollywood watered it down into a love triangle in the early 2010s without realizing the irony considering what the book is really trying to say.

Mixed thoughts . . . don't care for the kids killing kids premise of the story but have to say it was well written. The author got my attention immediately and held it through the entire story. I liked the characters a lot and thought the author handled the deaths well (all things considered). Regarding the movie, I don't really have any desire to see it and probably won't let my kids see it.

I read this originally when I was 12 for school and I remember loving it but I forgot a lot of the plot. I also watched the first movie when it came out but I never continued the series in either format and I managed to not hear any spoilers over the last decade. Rereading this book was amazing, I couldn't put it down and I finished the trilogy in only a couple of days. I definitely agree with others that this book will end up being a classic in another decade or so.
