I was not expecting this book to be so scary. I don't remember the first book being that way, but the first 60% of this one felt more like a horror book. Which is fine and all, but I don't read horror because it affects me too much. I get scared very easily and can't sleep or turn the lights out.

Sadly, the horror parts were the most interesting. The rest of the book feels low stakes and bland. It focuses more on action but the actions don't feel very compelling. Rhiannon is not a great character, and the random spattering of her POV is unnecessary and distracting.

The reveal at the end didn't have the impact I felt like the author thought it did. Maybe because of the first section, but I had a prediction of what was going to happen, and what did happen was much less interesting.

Plus there were a few editing errors that were distracting. In the worst case, there were two different versions of the same paragraph, missed during a rewrite at some point. I know the first book was self-published but this one was not, so the lack of professionalism was disappointing.

Overall, it was a fast read with some great horror elements. I will read the next one.

'Exodus (Extinction Point 2)' by Paul Antony Jones is the second book in the series, and just like the first one, it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.

Emily Baxter has survived the thing that has basically killed most of life on the planet in an extinction level type of event. She has escaped New York and she has a plan. This time around, she finds out she's not entirely alone. Along with her dog, Thor, she runs across some survivors. She wonders how any of them have survived, but they continue on Emily's journey north to a remote science station in Alaska. What will they find along the way, and will even Alaska be safe?

I enjoyed the first book more, and I got a bit annoyed in this one with descriptions of Emily discovering how to drive. We know she doesn't know how. We don't need descriptions of her confusion about what a brake pedal looks like. I also think I liked Emily alone more in the first book than with her fellow travellers, with the exception of Thor. Still, I do plan on reading the next volumes in the series.

I received a copy of this ebook from Amazon Publishing, 47North, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Very easy read, with a bit more drama than the first one. To be honest i finished it in two days, I really found it entertaining and would recommend it for an easy, sci fi read with a good take on a different kind of apocalypse.

Emily Baxter is a reporter or she used to be until the alien invasion turned the skies blood red. Emily knows she is not the only survivor. She has been communicating with another survivor named Jacob in Alaska. It seems that the aliens can not survive the frigid, cold temperatures. She is trying to make her way to him. Along the way Emily along with her dog, Thor find a family. Emily and the family must trek their way across dangerous territories all the while trying to survive the aliens.

Extinction Point: Exodus is the second Extinction Point book. The first titled Extinction Point. I was not aware when I first picked up this book that this was book two. Luckily this book can be read as a stand alone novel. This series needs to be made into either a movie on the big screen or a television series. It is that good.

I have not read many alien themed books however I am a fan of the sci-fi and horror genre. This book was an instant love. The world that Mr. Jones built along with the characters and the aliens is what made this book for me. I can tell you that I would never want to meet any of these aliens or at least not alone.

Emily is one tough cookie. She kept a level head throughout the whole ordeal. The ending left me with more questions. Like what is going to happen next, will anyone be able to stop the alien invasion, and what about the crew of the International space station?

I can't get enough of these books! I raced my way through the first one and treated this second instalment in much the same way. Some shocking deaths (which were unexpected) and some creepy alien scenes not to mention an epic journey from New York to Alaska make this book a great read! I can not wait for the next book to be released and have already asked the author if he would like me to "proof read" it ;) ...I'd say anything to get my hands on a copy if it means I don't have to wait as long :D

Have you ever craved one of those cold pre-bottled Starbucks coffee drinks for quite a long time only to chug it down mindlessly once you have it in hand? Well, this book is a little bit like one of those coffee drinks. I found myself waiting for nearly a year to read it only to devour it in a day without barely a blink. And believe me, you'll not want to blink because it is quite a scary tale. Once again, we follow Emily's quest to find someone else besides her trusty dog who has survived the red rains. She must travel north into the cold in order to escape the post- apocalyptic horror that seems to be scheming to prevent her success. It's a shame that I consumed this book in such a hurry because now I have to wait many many months yet again to follow Emily farther into the cold unknown in order to learn her fate.
