Sixteen years after giving her up for adoption, Mika’s daughter seeks her out for a relationship. Mika has to re-examine her life, her relationships, her past and her dreams. The second half dragged on a bit and I didn’t like the romance story line.

I should probably stop trying to read general fiction. This is NOT a bad book at all. It's good. I just need to stop reading the wrong genre. (I only picked it up cause I loved her YA books.) I do think the cover is mis-marketed though. It's heavy and the cover doesn't reflect that.

Mika makes lots of mistakes. Most characters in here make lots of mistakes as you watch, cringing, them make said mistakes. Maybe since I'm not a mother and haven't been into similar situations to Mika, I wasn't able to connect the way I needed to. But I found myself very annoyed at most of her decisions.
A lot of the plot revolves around: her difficult/new relationship with her estranged teenage daughter, Mika's sexual relationship with her daughter's adoptive father, her reckoning with her past rape which resulted in the pregnancy, and a lot of lying about what her life is like. So like I said, it's heavy. I would recommend knowing that going in.
