Another quick and pleasant read in the series. Here, our hero is home in Rome, confronting old enemies and making a few new. The plot revolves around a murdered family member, why was he killed? This search leads us, periphereially to Caesar, Pompey, Cicero, and the other names of the time.

A good story, but the resolution was incomplete. The identity of the killer and his motive was discovered, but then and there the story stops. No aftermath or cleanup.

Decius' uncle has been poisoned and his family want him to prove the not-so-grieving widow, Claudia is guilty. Decius' arch-enemy (and Claudia's brother) Cladius, wants him to prove she is innocent. Human sacrifices, poison-selling witches and the rites of Saturnalia all come into play before guilt is laid at the proper door.
