Is love worth the risk?

I fell in love with this book from the moment I saw that the prologue was narrated by Fate. The personification of an abstract concept is so fascinating to me, it’s the reason I love the Book Thief.

If you’re looking for a book with magical realism that is reminiscent of Encanto mixed with high stakes and romance, this book is for you.

Though I thought I wouldn’t like the book when I read the first two chapters, I quickly grew to fall in love with the characters and the message.

Flirting with Fate is a layered story of magic, love, familial relationships, trust and abandonment. The Granados family has just lost their matriarch, Nana. Nana was the woman who held the family together when Caroline Granados walked out on her husband and three young daughters. The magic is the girls inheritance, a blessing passed from matriarch to the female descendants on the matriarch’s deathbed. Ava Granados is at work when she gets the call about her Nana, but at the same time a wild storm suddenly happens. Ava leaves anyway against her family’s judgment that she not drive in the storm. Fate or destiny takes over and even though Ava doesn’t believe in either, even she can’t deny that some force is willing her in a direction she never believed was going to be her path.
