This was an enjoyable and engaging book that blended Fantasy and History. In post civil war America, black girls get sent to schools to learn how to fight the undead, whixhs tarted rising at the end of the civil war. Jane attends this school and learns how to fight back against racism and the undead. Excellent story. Really engaging.
SO FREAKING GOOD OMG!!! I l loved the voice of this book and would follow Jane McKeene into any battle against the dead. The alternate history of a US That has to fight against shamblers instead of itself during the civil war era was so compelling; and in a world where literal zombies are threatening to overrun humanity, the most frightening thing remains the adherence to a code where white people are superior to black people.
Highly recommend this read if you like your zombies with a little bit of historical fiction!
