This was an entertaining read that did a good job of portraying what a zombie apocalypse would be like during the Civil War. The characters fell a little flat for me, but I found myself rooting for their survival towards the end of the book.

The author creates an extraordinary world in this genre-mixing alternate history set after the Civil War. See my full review here.

This is more of a 4.25 or 4.5. Not sure what’s holding me back from a 5 star review. Maybe the pacing? This was a good book but not a great one. Still, I’m looking forward to reading the sequel.

The second book of this series needs to come out pronto, I need to see how Jane, Catherine, and Jackson and the rest of the survivors do in the new city and to see how things go on Jane's other trek....to meet her mum! This book was so damn good. I loved it so much that I even went and listened to it at work when we didn't have any customers and we were dead. This book was so damn good!

I bought this book solely because of the back cover blurb. I thought to concept it present was spectacular. Civil War Era US History is absolutely fascinating, but throw the zombie apocalypse into the mix and everything becomes even more incredible. I listened to it as an audio book and the narrator was fantastic. I thought the writing execution could have been a little bit better, but I still looked forward to listening each and every time. The storyline was really interesting, that southerners would try to recreate the pre-Civil War life in the West "free" of the zombies. It was intriguing to think about and crazy to take that ride with Jane. It's perfect setup at the end for a second entry into the series has me on the lookout for the next one.
