One of Christie’s stand-alone novels, not featuring one of her famous detectives. What a ride!

A complete stranger helps a woman cover up a murder. He apparently doesn’t know who did it, but she is clearly covering for someone. Their steps to create a “perfect” murder coverup are intriguing and almost comical.

The characters are lovely, and I especially liked Sargent Cadwaladr…his poetic bouts in the middle of his job and the interviewing suspects procedure are just hilarious.

There were a few things I didn’t understand at the end, but…*shrugs*

The revealing…ah! Christie does it again. I had an inkling this might be the case. Always happy when my hunches are right.

Content: a married woman has an affair and it isn’t condemned; swearing

This was a nice and simple but clever mystery. Good fast read.

VIOLENCE 2/5

3 stars. This is a decent story, but it makes a bit of a choppy read, probably due to being a novelization of a stage play.

So this was originally a play and adapted to a novel format. I did notice that the writing was a bit "off" and didn't feel quite right for an Agatha Christie book. The plot and characters were pretty interesting, as usual, starting off with pretty-clear case of wife being caught red-handed and holding the smoking gun. And in typical Christie style all is not what it appears to be. Not sure if it is because I've read so many of her books, but it didn't take me too long to figure out what the plot-twist would be and who did it and why. Perhaps seeing it in a play may have kept me guessing a little longer. Overall, it was still a good read.

Agatha, you’ve bloody done it again..!
