Okay, this is so not getting boring. This might be one of the best volumes, oh my gosh! 5+ stars.

"When we were younger, we didn't think of what was impossible, or considered there was anything we couldn't do. Remember that sensation from back then. We can do it. Believe. From the bottom of my heart, without any trace of doubt...stop and rewind." - Emma (68).

So much happens, and so much is revealed and understood, in Shirai's 16th volume of "The Promised Neverland". So much so, that it could be one of the most important volumes in the series thus far.

As Emma's quote suggests, there is such a power in the ability to believe that barely anything could be impossible, and that very little can be achieved. There is that power in the millions of children around the world (in ours and in Emma's) who have that precious power to change the pace and times as we know it. Luckily, Emma is such a heroine that shows no matter age, size, gender, or background it is the future that can correct portions of the past.....

....at least....we will see if that rings true in Volumes 17+.

You know a series is approaching its end when the pace picks up to breakneck speed, with multiple plot points unfolding all at once. This volume absolutely has that energy. There’s an intensity and it’s clear things are building up toward the finale.

One surprise was the introduction of Ayshe, whose unconventional background sets her apart from characters we’ve seen so far. While I enjoyed this addition, I couldn’t help but feel that her character’s late introduction was intended to add extra weight to Emma’s choice not to eliminate the demons. Ayshe’s backstory, though intriguing, feels almost like a tool to validate Emma’s ideals rather than a part of the narrative.

Finally, we get a glimpse into the history of the 1,000-year-old promise and the immense cost that comes with it. It’s thrilling yet daunting, especially as Emma considers the personal sacrifice it requires. I’m left wondering what exactly what she was asked to give up.
