Belly’s second summer with the Fisher boys was just as engrossing as the first. I love watching Belly grow up. I like the complexity of her feelings for Conrad, and the easiness of her relationship with Jeremiah. How can you pick which one she’s supposed to be with? The one that makes her heart swell but can’t help but put her through a rollercoaster of emotions? Or the one who has been her friend and thinks he needs her? One thinks he’s deserving, the other one doesn’t. It’s just the perfect love triangle, and I can’t wait to read the final chapter of their story.

I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher for promotional purposes.
This one was so much better than the first book!
First off, I have to preface this review by saying I have seen the second season of the show, so I did know a lot of the plot points going into the book and obviously wasn’t surprised by some of the things that happened.
This book was much more emotional than the first, since it deals a lot with grief and the aftermath of Susannah’s death. The book did a good job exploring grief and how people process it differently.
This book was also much more balanced in regard to flashbacks than the first book. There weren’t as many and they were more evenly spaced out throughout the story. The flashbacks were also more important this time and contributed to the plot.
The main characters (Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah) were still so messy. Sometimes I did get annoyed with them, especially with Conrad. However, they were still grieving Susannah, so I’ll cut them some slack.
Like the first book, the writing style worked well. The book reads easy and smooth, like a summer breeze.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to see how the story ends in book 3!
