I am mixed on how to give this review. I very much enjoyed the writing style and overall theme and storyline. However the flippant and humorous s.a makes me pause. Especially towards the end of the book and his relationship with America. Sigh, what a shame to not be able to remember this book fondly.

I struggled to get through this book. I wanted to like it because the author has such a great reputation. But I just couldn’t find myself caring enough about the characters. I actually put it down and gave up on it, and then picked it up again a couple of weeks later to finish it off. That’s a sign that I did care to learn their story after all. But overall I didn’t really enjoy this experience.

Want to read this again because my grandmother told me just recently that it's one of her favorite books.

Idk if it's was the author's intelligence or it's the translator's, I know it was written in spanish but I read it in English and the language was so great concerning the narration style.
I've much judgements on the story, but in it was one of the best novels dealing with romantic feelings regardless the row you're taking, whether it's illusion or the end of the end.
I liked many quotes and that's one of them ;
"He was still too young to know that the heart's memory eliminates the bad and magnifies the good, and that thanks to this artifice we manage to endure the burden of the past."
Eventually, I wish I could say that Florentino Aríza was a very perfect example for loyality but the hundreds of women he became with object.
