I found this pretty tedious. I can kind of see how people would find it entertaining, but the characterisation felt very weak and there's nothing in the writing to grab my attention.

Just like station eleven, this is not a straight up 5 star for me, however I do think it will grow to be. I can see these characters and the narrative lingering in my mind for the next months.

This is the story that describes fantastically what motivates a person - or, in this case, every single character. I’m weak for character study narratives so I’m biased in that aspect, but heck can Celeste Ng write… oof!

I didn't know too much about this when I picked it up from the library so I didn't go in with any expectations. Kind of slow, in my opinion, and didn't pick up much pace as the book went on, even though I feel like that slowness was supposed to build up for the twists that come. However, the climax wasn’t as big as it could’ve been, and in some ways the ending felt abrupt and kind of incomplete. Aside from some brief talk of teenage sex in a few spots and a sprinkling of language, there aren’t too many problematic deterrents, which I appreciated. I liked it but at the same time just wasn't blown away by it or think it's anything worth really raving over. I will likely reread again and when it comes out, I hope to watch the Hulu series Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington are adapting. If I could give it a half star I would give it 3.5 but I didn't like it enough to give it a 4-almost-perfect rating.
