I like Atwood and her writing of course, and this is the 8th book I've read, but this wasn't that interesting tbh. 2.4/5

Half way into the book I still had no idea what was going on.

It's not often that I am unable to finish a book, but in this instance I wasn't. I found the central character to be so droll and unappealing that I was unable to connect at all with her and, in turn, wa unable to connect with her story.

I'm abandoning this after getting half way through. It wasn't that bad, just not really going anywhere. I'm not really interested in the characters. At this point they are hanging out on a deserted island in Quebec. The narrator is trying to find her missing father along with her boyfriend and another couple. I peeked and read a summary and I'm good with not going any farther.

Three and a half stars. A little muddled toward the end, but still fascinating. This is a young author providing a snapshot of hippie/back to the land culture the early 1970s.

the writing is pretty smooth, it was probs the saving grace that drew me into finishing the book. lowkey was mad invested, I wanted to know how shi was about to go down. defo gotta do research to understand the imagery/message of the book tho.... initially I thought it was the protagonist
refusing to adopt or partake in patriarchal influences but I missed the reclamation of identity mark once she willfully decided to get pregnant- threw me off a loop. good read but nearing towards the end, i was a bit lost ngl..... the anticlimactic ending didn't help a girlie out either T^T

This started as a perfectly entertaining story and got super strange toward the end. Not sure if it was supposed to be metaphorical or some sort of tribal thing but I got lost.
