I was really expecting to love this, but it kind of fell flat for me. The writing was not great, but the main character was smart and fun which kept me reading. While this was billed as YA, it still felt a little young to me. A short, fun read with a great premise, but not as well executed as it could have been.

What a breath of fresh air.
This YA roaring 20’s rural sea town romance was just as addictive as it was perfectly charming, romantic and with a great sense for familial relationships.
There was space for diversity, love from all walks of life, luxurious parties, beautiful scenery, the sea, oh the sea (I love it as much as our heroine), deceit and misunderstandings, obligations and secrets, supporting parents, amazing sisters, and romance of the kind that makes you curl your toes in need to see it fulfilled.
Lou is just the right amount of naive, strong willed and righteous, a girl with dreams, a girl wanting to discover life and live it, a girl who will meet the the broody owner of the house in the middle of the sea that she has stolen for herself while unoccupied, and will be swept away to live a Summer and a life she only ever read on the magazines and romance novels. Of course, she will be down for a lot of surprises, laughs and tears, as it was prone to happen.
Just lovely and what I needed when I picked it up this afternoon. Yep, this was a one sitting read, it was just the perfect amount of captivating and entertaining.
I can’t wait to read the author’s other YA romances.

I definitely bought this for the cover, but I stayed for the story. Good friendships, sweet romance, and a fun, roaring twenties atmosphere. I'm looking forward to reading more from Laura Wood.
A Sky Painted Gold promised me a heartwarming coming-of-age romance with a mix of The Great Gatsby and I Capture the Castle, two of my all time favourite books, and I got just what I was promised and I am so happy right now. I think I've found a new favourite author to add.
