4.5 | The perfect summer read
This book is wonderful. It took me to a whole new world as much as it took “Lou” and I fell in love. It was exciting, mysterious, lovely and daring.
It was beautiful seeing Lou getting to know herself, life and the world outside her wonderful bubble — all the good and bad things in it, because life is full of ups and downs and this book showed it all and well. It told the reader that even the furtunate ones suffer and that all the money in the world can’t buy real happiness.
Lou struggled with knowing what she wanted for her life and herself and it was so important to see her get to the point where she was able to find her dream and “run” after it (and the support from her family was everything to me). Lou needed to discover herself and the summer of 1929 was it for her. The romance was short but at the end it was all worth it.
So this was a beautiful summer reading, full of glamour, extravaganza and all the things you hope from an exiting and romantic summer read.

good god, this was amazing. the way you could feel the energy pulsing from the book during the parties, the way you feel the heartache that each character goes through, and knowledge that this all happened before the Great Depression... when stuff really went downhill.
this book was beautiful written, it’s imagery stunning, the world and its characters beautiful, flawed, and broken.
also, having Laurie be a lesbian is just an absolute win for the gays.

Really fun and easy read. I found the writing to be a little cheesy/predictable or just off at times, but it didn’t bother me too much. The book felt relatable to me in the sense that the main character feels super lost in life. Finding her “people” is what becomes a lifeline to her, and I thought that was quite wonderful. The book maintains an air of mystery because the reader doesn’t learn about the Cardew’s secret until the end. Uncovering that and tying up the loose ends to give all the characters a happy ending was really well done imo, and the last pages were super swoon worthy. Tbh, I’d read a second installment about Lou and Robert in London
Stopped reading at 45%. I couldn't seem to get into it. A Sky Painted Gold seemed to lack any sort of conflict or obstacle that needed to be tackled which left a feeling of pointlessness to it. The writing itself was decent, just not for me.

If you want something lighthearted to read in a couple of hours this is the perfect book. It includes a lot of bickering between the main couple which i know many people appreciate.
This book is addicting! I didn’t want it to end and now I just want more!! I absolutely loved each character, and I loved learning more about each and every one of them! Honestly the ending was a bit predictable, but I wasn’t disappointed, because I wanted so badly for Lou, Robert and Caitlin to have the happy ending they deserve! It’s such a feel good book that puts a smile on your face! Loved it from start to finish!
