A Monster Calls is beautiful and devastating. This is a short story about truth, grief, and living with conflicting truths. For a kids'/YA book, it's absolutely brutal. The art is a perfect edition to this dark, modern, occasionally funny fairy tale. What can we control when monsters inevitably come knocking? Are they monsters at all?

Have you ever felt the need to hug every characters in the book? This book is definitely one of them. Dinarasikan dengan kalimat-kalimat yang lugas dan alur yang sederhana, buku ini dapat menyampaikan dengan baik kepada pembaca tentang kompleksitas manusia dan konsep baik-buruk. Through Conor, her mum, grandma, and the monster, I knew that we don't always have a happy ending. We need to learn how to let go of things. The truth is scary, telling them is scarier, but still, we have to tell the truth. Oh, don't forget to prepare a tissue if you read this.
