This is a fun read if you can look past a few things. There are a startling number of Australian-isms for a book set in New York City with characters that all grew up around New York. There are the occasional spelling and grammatical errors.

But! If you like a main character who is not likeable, not because he's a villain but just because he's a doofus, middle aged, white man with a hero complex, then you'll love Pat! He loses his temper at the drop of the hat and continues to stick his nose where it doesn't belong despite literally everyone telling him not to.

The overall plot is pretty good! Some of the descriptions along the way are odd, but it develops in a satisfying way and has an ending you don't see coming.
